Artist Statement:
“There are many realities” - Louise Bourgeois
2020 Vision - great eyesight? - great insight? - great hindsight?
What occurred worldwide in 2020 changed the ‘sight’ of us all. For some our eyes opened up wider (oh wow that’s what’s going on!), for others they closed down (when will this be over?) and all the myriad of responses in between.
This body of work is a result of having the time to paint, more time than expected and the work is an exploration into worlds beyond what was going on in the physical realm.
Those worlds included looking within, painting from an impetus of emotion and feeling, from the heart, and also noticing my vision being taken into liminal, imaginal, mythological, mystical and poetic worlds, allowing myself to witness what figures and messages emerged.
There is also a relationship between the new home I was inhabiting at this time (beachfront, Gould Street, Long Island, Frankston) and my relationship with the sea and the sky, as well as the birds and other life, somehow imbued within the work.
Through the uncertainty of that time, these works kept me close to my soul, they reassured me when I needed them to, they lifted me up when necessary, and made a crazy time more sane.
